Since my last blog entry, I was able to attend the first POEMA Workshop which was held in Florence in January.  The organisers did a great job and all POEMA students were briefed in the very basics of polynomial optimisation, tensor decompositions and computer algebra.  In addition to the short courses, I have benefited a lot from discussions with other students or researchers. It is definitely interesting to see which problems the other students are trying to answer. Furthermore, it is helpful to see that we also share similar difficulties with administrational things and the work.

Since I have started in mid September I mainly read interesting articles on symmetry structure exploitation and regularly discuss with my supervisor. Furthermore, the Algebra research group in Tromsø has welcomed several guests so far who gave interesting talks.  Beyond the work the daylight in Tromsø decreases rapidly while the amount of snow increases which makes the journey to the university into a little adventure every day. The nature around Tromsø is nice to watch but it is extremely cold.
